The numerous indigenous communities in the Federal Capital territory are subsistence farmers. They cultivate products such as maize, guinea corn, yams, vegetables, etc. Fishing is another source of livelihood, as some of the communities traditionally lived around the riverbanks. Other sources of livelihood include pottery and iron smelting, weaving, wood fetching, which is used to produce charcoal. Trading is also an essential source of livelihood for the indigenous Abuja communities as they often have to sell the produce from their farms to make a living.
